It’s April, aka the beginning of Q2! I know some of you are feeling energetic and excited about the spring/summer season after feeling the first rays of sunshine, while others feel like you have to look back on the first three months of this year and think about what you haven't achieved so far. The same phenomenon occurs every year. A few months pass by, and not everyone can say that goals have already been checked off the New Year's resolution list. Don’t worry; you may have only achieved one thing so far, and that is a good start. Your perspective will definitely change once you start splitting your yearly targets into quarters.
First things first, what exactly is quarter-planning?
Planning in quarters is a strategic approach where businesses break down their annual goals into smaller, manageable chunks to be achieved over three-month periods. This method allows companies to focus on short-term objectives while keeping sight of the bigger target.
How can quarter planning benefit me?
By dividing the year into quarters, you can track progress more effectively, make adjustments as needed, and stay flexible in a day to day life. Utilizing quarterly planning enhance performance, fosters accountability, and improves overall productivity.
Setting goals and priorities specifically for a time and season in life also ensures you are planning with the resources available to you. By breaking down your goals into smaller milestones and establishing a clear roadmap for each quarter, you can make significant progress towards your objectives without feeling overwhelmed.
Example:
Imagine that you want to learn a new skill this year, so you look at courses and find a great course that will teach you this skill in 2 months if you study 1 hour a day. Since the beginning of the year, you have been working a lot of hours to save up for a car repair that is due in May. From July to August, you are free from work. You’re feeling a bit discouraged because it feels like you haven’t reached anything on your goal list. Your objectives for the First three quarters could be:
January–March: working and saving. April-June: You’re still working and will be able to pay off the repair by May. In June, you begin your course and finish your goal in the third quarter (July–September). In reality, you have almost reached your first goal, which is a car repair, and you will reach your big goal once you have the time to take the class.
Remember, consistency and commitment are key to turning your dreams into reality.
